Celebrate Our Lady’s Birthday

Each year, the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8. AMM continues its tradition to honor Mary’s birth, which this year falls on the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Association will observe an octave of prayer beginning September 8 and concluding on September 15, the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. You are invited to entrust your intentions to the Mother of God. Mary welcomes your devotion, your prayers for a loved one, or a simple expression of your gratitude to the spiritual Mother who loves you more than even the best earthly mother could. You may also burn a Votive Light in Our Lady’s honor, representing your special affection for the Immaculate Mother of Our Lord. Read Fr. Clay’s letter to learn more about the birthday candle being created by thousands of faithful members.

Safe Summer Travels

“The Lord is your guardian; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The Lord will guard your coming and going both now and forever.”  Psalm 121:5,8

Blessings on your summer travel.

We hope your plan includes visiting the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Perryville, Missouri, where you can personally place your prayer intentions near Our Lady’s Shrine Altar. If a visit is not possible, you may include your intentions for remembrance in our daily Mass and prayers and burn a Votive Light for your needs from the comfort of your own home using this link.

Here is a special Prayer for Travelers.

Celebrating Our Lady’s Assumption

From the early 1800s until 1965, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish served Catholics here in the small Missouri town of Perryville.

In the beginning, a small wooden church served the congregation. By 1834, that structure was replaced by a larger church, modeled after the Vincentian motherhouse, Monte Citorio, in Rome. Beautiful paintings were added over time. Today, these include a magnificent replica of a depiction of Our Lady’s Assumption by Spain’s famous Baroque painter, Bartolomé Murillo.

In 1929, the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal was added to the church.

Today, I invite you to take part in the annual Assumption Novena of Masses beginning on August 6 at the National Shrine. Enviar your personal intentions and we will place them near Our Lady’s Shrine Altar for remembrance throughout the novena and during the Solemnity Mass on Thursday, August 15.

You may also request a Votive Light to burn for your intentions. Votive Light offerings help the Association draw others closer to Jesus through Mary, who is the Queen of Heaven and Earth.

I recall the words of the Holy Father, Pope Francis, speaking on Mary’s Assumption: “She is the first creature who, with her whole self, body and soul, victoriously crosses the finish line of Heaven … Looking at her, in glory, we understand that the true power is service, and that to reign means to love.”

In closing, I invite you to join AMM members in reciting this prayer daily from August 6-15.

May Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal keep you close to her heart and to the heart of her Son.

 In the love of Mary,

P.S. This year’s Solemnity of the Assumption Mass on Thursday, August 15, will be live-streamed on our Facebook page beginning at 12:10 p.m., CT. You are invited to join us for this joyous Liturgy!

Stories of Our Lady’s Intercession

Dear Father, My daughter had been trying for two years to get pregnant. I bought a fertility prayer card and placed it inside her birthday card. Within six weeks, she was expecting. My granddaughter was born on January 1 —the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. Praise God and give thanks to Our Holy Mother, Mary.

Dear Father, Wearing the Miraculous Medal has brought me continuous peace and harmony in not only my life, but in the lives of many friends and family. Your life will thrive with Mary on your side.

Dear Father, For six weeks I have been offering small donations and asking Mary’s help in finding a new heart for Philip who needs a transplant. This morning we got the phone call – a heart has been donated and he will have surgery tomorrow! Is this just a coincidence? I don’t think so. Thank you, my Mother Mary!

Assumption Novena of Masses

Please share your prayer intentions for remembrance in our annual Assumption Novena of Masses beginning Tuesday, August 6. Throughout the nine days, we will call to mind Our Lady’s Assumption into heaven, declared an official dogma of the Church in 1950 by Pope Pius XII. You are invited to join fellow AMM members in praying this prayer to Our Lady of the Assumption.

Bishop Robert Barron offers insight on the August 15 Solemnity, which we will celebrate the day after the novena concludes:

“When we speak of the Assumption, we are not envisioning a journey through space, as though Mary moved up into the sky. The ‘heavens’ are a rich biblical symbol for … a manner of existence that lies beyond our familiar dimensions of space and time … Mary, who exists now in this other world, is not so much somewhere else as somehow else, and this helps to explain why we can speak of her, especially in her heavenly state, interceding, helping us, and praying for us and with us.”

Lift up your prayers into God’s presence during the Novena of Masses and Solemnity observance. You may also burn a Votive Light as a sign of your prayerful presence for this joyous feast.

Your intentions will be remembered from August 6-15 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. We will celebrate Mass on the Solemnity of the Assumption Thursday, August 15, at 12:10 p.m. CT.  Read Father Clay’s letter about the Assumption.

Father’s Day … Sunday, June 16

The just walk in integrity; happy are their children after them!

— Proverbs 20:7

Celebrate the loving fathers, grandfathers, foster fathers, and father figures in your life. Whether they are living or deceased, you can offer the gift of prayer by sending the names of your loved ones for remembrance. We will remember them during the Association’s Mass on June 16 at 11:00 a.m., CT, and during the daily Mass and prayers at Our Lady’s Shrine throughout the month of June. You may also request a Votive Light to burn for your loved ones as another sign of your affection. You are invited to join fellow AMM members in praying this Father’s Day prayer.

Read the 2024 Summer Bulletin – Vincentian Virtues

Don’t miss out on reading AMM’s 2024 Summer Bulletin. In this issue, Father Clay discusses the five Vincentian virtues and how we can demonstrate them in our lives. A new Votive Light card is available to help you celebrate love and friendship, offering your recipient a share in prayerful remembrance. An East Coast AMM member shares a dramatic story of healing and his devotion to Our Blessed Mother. And Don Fulford reflects on the virtuous practice of shining one’s light into others’ lives.

Request this Healing Remembrance Card: Send the Gift of Prayer to One You Love

Is a dear friend or relative in need of healing of body, mind, or spirit? The Association invites you to entrust that person to the loving care of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.

Each card announces the consoling gift of spiritual remembrance in prayer at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. Offerings you may choose to make when sending the cards enable AMM to spread devotion to Our Lady and support the ministries of the Vincentian priests and brothers of the Congregation of the Mission.

Read Fr. Clay’s letter for an inspiring story of
hope and healing connected with these cards.
Finally, if you send AMM the name of your recipient, your loved one will be remembered in the daily Mass and prayers here at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Perryville, Missouri, for as long as there is a need for healing.

The Power Of A Small Act Of Kindness

Can you remember when the news of a loved one’s illness left you at a loss for words?

It isn’t always easy to know the right thing to say or do.

One thing we should never do is underestimate the power of the smallest act of kindness — sharing a few assuring words of support, texting a get well message, saying a prayer, or mailing a note or greeting card. Offered in love and faith, God can bless and multiply the ripple effects of such gestures, yielding graces and blessings we might never have dreamed possible.

Perhaps a friend or relative is in need of healing of body, mind, or spirit at this time. If so, I invite you to entrust that person to the loving care of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.

Send a Healing Remembrance Card to let your recipient know that you are thinking of them — and that you have asked Mary, the Mother of God, to do the same.

Recall Our Lady’s promise to Saint Catherine Labouré. Our Blessed Mother would never fail to shower graces upon all who turn to her confidently in times of need.

Not long ago, a member wrote to tell us how much such a gesture could mean.

Querido padre, The mother of a co-worker was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and was in and out of the hospital. My wife and I requested a Healing Remembrance Card and a Votive Light to burn for her at AMM’s National Shrine. I also prayed the Rosary confidently in petition for her healing. My co-worker is no longer a practicing Catholic, but I still gave him the card and a Miraculous Medal to give to his mother. I assured him that his mother would be remembered in the Masses and prayers at the Shrine. Recently, his mother went to the doctor and was told that her stage 4 cancer was completely gone. Now, that is a miracle! I would like to thank Our Blessed Mother for her intercession and the Vincentian priests and brothers for their prayers. I told my co-worker that it was a miracle, but he still seems doubtful. Please continue to pray that he recognizes God’s grace.

Send me the names of your loved ones for remembrance in healingWe will remember your recipients in the daily Mass and prayers here at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.

Requesting a Votive Light to burn near Mary’s Shrine Altar can be another expression of your faith and prayerful support.

Any offering you include will help us spread devotion to Our Lady and support the ministries of the Vincentian priests and brothers of the Congregation of the Mission founded by Saint Vincent de Paul.

In his wisdom, the saint taught those who joined him in his missionary work, “It is from your hands that Our Lord, in the person of the sick, seeks relief.”

Thank you for allowing the Association of the Miraculous Medal to join you in praying for your loved one in need of healing.  May God continue to bless all our efforts to serve him and draw us ever closer to himself.

Faithfully yours in Jesus and Mary,

P.S.  Order your Healing Remembrance Card to lift the spirits of someone you love who is suffering in body, mind, or spirit.

“Veni, Sanctus Spiritus!”Come, Holy Spirit!

On Friday, May 10, AMM begins its annual Novena de Misas de Pentecostés here at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.

Please join your AMM family in prayer, adding your intentions alongside theirs. The petitions you share will be entrusted to Our Lady and rest near the Shrine Altar throughout the novena, concluding with the Solemnity of Pentecost on Sunday, May 19.

You may also burn a Votive Light — a sign of the fire of your love in the Spirit.

Pope Francis urged the faithful to reflect upon how well we receive the priceless gift of the Holy Spirit:

“ … do I welcome the Spirit’s harmonious and creative power, the ‘grace of wholeness’ that he inspires, his forgiveness that brings us peace? … Do I foster reconciliation and build communion or [cause] hurt and division and heartbreak? … If the world is divided, if the Church is polarized, if hearts are broken, let us not waste time in criticizing others and growing angry with one another; instead, let us invoke the Spirit. He is able to resolve all of this.”

May Our Lady obtain for you and your loved ones a generous share in the gifts of the Spirit to draw you ever closer to her Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
