Celebrate Our Lady’s Birthday

Every year on September 8, the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The birthday observance of Our Blessed Mother comes nine months after the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.

“Next to the birth of Jesus, Mary’s birth offers the greatest possible happiness to the world. Each time we celebrate her birth, we can confidently hope for an increase of peace in our hearts and in the world … ” — from a Franciscan reflection

I invite you to take part in this year’s celebration on September 8 in a special and meaningful way by sending your intentions.

Beginning on September 8, a large candle is placed near Mary’s Shrine Altar and will burn for 8-days during the octave of prayer.

I encourage you to include prayer intentions. Our Lady desires that we offer our appeals for her heavenly intercession! You may also request an individual Votive Light to burn.

If you are able, please consider sharing a special birthday offering.  Your gift will help AMM continue its mission in three important ways. It will (1) help draw more souls closer to Jesus through Our Lady; (2) support the ministries of Vincentian priests and brothers; and (3) allow us to continue distributing free, blessed Miraculous Medals to anyone who asks.

Many members tell us how Mary has showered them with comfort and blessings. A member from Connecticut recently wrote:

“Mary has always helped our family stay together. We went through a difficult time around 13 years ago that lasted a few years. Mary’s love and protection never left us.  Through her grace and intercession, we are a close, loving family. Thank you, dear sweet Mother.”

You may always request free, blessed Miraculous Medals on a keepsake card of explanation. Simply call us Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., CT, at 1-800-264-MARY (6279). You may share prayer requests by phone, as well.

I look forward to receiving your prayer intentions to be included in the octave of prayer. Thank you for being part of Mary’s birthday celebration honoring Jesus’ Mother and our mother too! May God bless your continuing efforts to serve him and draw you ever closer to himself.

Sincerely in Jesus and Mary,
